The Sunday River ski resort and outdoor industries are major contributors. Median household income is about $60,000, slightly below the state average, with rural towns facing persistent economic challenges.

Politically, Oxford County has leaned Republican in recent elections, though some towns remain competitive and independents hold influence. Local issues include job creation, mill closures, property taxes, healthcare access, and land use.
